Son of the Beloved
a meditation on the Old Testament
“You are my son, Today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.” - Psalm 2
The next covenant centers on the kingdom of God. The people of Israel wanted a king to unite them.
Beloved King
“And the Lord will become king over all the earth; on that day the Lord will be one and his name one” - The Prophet Zechariah
Queen Mother
“Sing and rejoice, o daughter of zion, for behold, i come and i will dwell in the midst of you” - The Prophet Zechariah
“And the king rose to meet her, and bowed down to her. Then he sat on his throne, and had a seat brought for the king’s mother; and she sat on his right. “ - 1 kings
Father of Peace
“They will look upon him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child… On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness” - The Prophet Zechariah
House of Prayer
“Behold the man whose name is the branch: for he shall grow up in his place, and he shall build the temple of the Lord. It is he who shall build the temple of the Lord, and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule upon his throne. and there shall be a priest by his throne, and peaceful understanding shall be between them both. And the crown shall be in the temple of the Lord.” - The Prophet Zechariah
Exile

Eternal Kingdom
Rejoice greatly, o daughter of zion!
shout aloud, o daughter of jerusalem!
behold, your king comes to you;
triumphant and victorious is he,
humble and riding on a donkey…
And he shall command peace to the nations
his dominion shall be from sea to sea
And from the river to the ends of the earth.
As for you also,
because of the blood of my covenant with you,
i will set your captives free from the waterless pit.
